How to buy Japan-exclusive Sanrio items from abroad

Sanrio runs different stores for different regions, and the Japan-exclusive catalogue — Sanrio-store limited plush, regional souvenir designs, Japanese retail collabs, anniversary runs — is almost entirely outside the ones you can reach. This guide is about the route that does work, and what it costs.
Which Sanrio store can actually ship to you
Start here, because getting this wrong wastes the most time. There are three kinds of Sanrio store, and only one of them is likely to be able to sell to you.

So if you are in the US, UK, EU, Canada or Australia, the honest position today is that Sanrio has no official store that will post you a Japan-exclusive item. Check the country selector at shop.fromjp.sanrio.co.jp anyway before you assume — the list is expanding, and if your country has been added, that is the cheapest and safest route by a wide margin: duties are prepaid at checkout under a guaranteed landed-cost service, orders take up to 7 business days to ship, and delivery runs a further 4 to 8 business days.
Check the item's route before you shop
Not everything Japan-exclusive is bought the same way, and some of it cannot be bought at all. On every drop page here we label the realistic route:
- 🌍 Ships overseas — an official store will post it to you.
- 🗺️ Ships to a few countries — Sanrio's Direct-from-Japan store: official and direct, but only for the countries on its list (see above). Everyone else needs a proxy for the same item.
- 📦 Buyable via proxy — sold online in Japan only, so a proxy or forwarding address gets it.
- 🏪 In-store Japan — sold in physical shops; a proxy may manage it, or the aftermarket will.
- 🎪 In-person only — cafes, pop-ups and events. Not orderable; the aftermarket is the route.
- 🕹️ Arcade prize — never sold at retail. Online crane games or the aftermarket.
Reading the badge first saves you from pasting a cafe-exclusive link into a proxy form and waiting a week to be told no.
Order through a proxy or forwarding service

Two service types bridge the gap, and the choice between them is mostly about how many things you are buying.
- Buy-for-me proxy — sign up with Buyee, Japan Rabbit or ZenMarket, paste the product link, and they purchase it and forward it. No Japanese card or account needed, which also solves the common problem of Japanese stores declining foreign cards.
- Forwarding address — register with tenso.com or Blackship (ID verification required) for a personal Japanese address, then order on the Sanrio store yourself using that address. Cheaper per item, but you need a card the store will accept.
Sanrio's Japanese store is a normal Japanese e-commerce site, so both routes work on it. Neither service is affiliated with Sanrio.
What a real order costs
Fees are small; shipping is not. Here is a full worked example for one standard Sanrio-store plush, using the fees each company published as of September 3, 2026.

The lesson is not that proxies are expensive — the service fee is ¥500. It is that international shipping dominates, so the cost per item falls sharply when you buy several things at once. Four plush in one 2 kg parcel to Europe costs ¥6,700 to ship, not ¥17,600.
Import tax then applies on arrival, and 2026 changed the rules in most markets: the US $800 duty-free allowance is suspended, the EU applies a flat €3 duty per item under €150 from 1 July 2026, and the UK charges duty above £135 with VAT from the first pound. Sold out? It may not be gone
A sold-out listing on the official store is not always the end.
- Restocks are common on standard line items. Anniversary, collab and seasonal runs are the ones that never come back.
- Mercari Japan is where Japanese buyers resell, usually within days of a sell-out. A proxy such as Buyee can buy from it on your behalf.
- Suruga-ya and Japanese auction sites carry older and discontinued goods, and are worth searching for anything more than a year old.
Expect a markup on genuinely limited items, check listing photos carefully for condition and tags, and follow each platform's terms. We will not help you get around a purchase limit — those limits are the reason fans rather than resellers get the goods.

Can I buy Japan-only Sanrio items from overseas?
Yes, but usually not from Sanrio directly. Sanrio's Japanese store ships within Japan only, and its Direct-from-Japan store served six countries as of its own list dated 15 December 2025. For most of the world the working route is a buy-for-me proxy or a Japanese forwarding address.
Does Sanrio's Direct-from-Japan store ship to the US or UK?
Not as of the store's published country list dated 15 December 2025, which names Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, the Philippines and South Africa. Sanrio says it plans to expand, so check the country selector at checkout before assuming either way.
How much does it cost to order Japanese Sanrio goods to my country?
Reckon on the item price plus roughly ¥500 to ¥1,300 in service and domestic shipping fees, plus international shipping — about ¥4,400 for a 1 kg parcel to Europe and ¥5,300 to the United States by EMS — plus import tax in your own country.
Which proxy service is best for Sanrio goods?
For official-store items any of Buyee, Japan Rabbit or ZenMarket works. Buyee charges ¥500 per order, ZenMarket ¥300 per item, and Japan Rabbit a sliding percentage with a $5 minimum, so the cheapest depends on how many items you are buying at once.
