How to get Chiikawa movie merch outside Japan

Last updated September 3, 2026 · we re-check the fees, links and rules on this page rather than leaving it to go stale.

Chiikawa movie merchandise appears on the official Japanese stores, and a lot of it ships overseas directly, so buying it is easier than fans expect. The catch is timing: most pieces are pre-orders with Japan-time deadlines that pass sooner than they look from abroad.

Where the merch shows up

  1. Movie merch dropson official JP stores
  2. Chiikawa Marketships internationally
  3. Order earlypre-orders close on Japan time

Most movie goods appear on Chiikawa Market, which ships internationally through Global-e with duties calculated at checkout. That covers plush, figures, apparel and stationery — the bulk of the range.

The rest splits into three harder categories:

Every drop page here labels which of these you are looking at before you spend time on it.

Pre-order deadlines in your time zone

This is the part that costs people the item. Japanese pre-order windows close at a fixed JST time, usually 23:59, and JST does not observe daylight saving. A deadline that reads like “end of the day” has already passed by mid-afternoon in Europe.

Deadline in JapanYour local time
23:59 JSTLos Angeles — 07:59 the same morning
New York — 10:59 the same morning
London — 15:59 the same afternoon
Paris and Berlin — 16:59 the same afternoon
Sydney — 00:59 the next day

Those are northern-summer times. In northern winter the American and European times are an hour earlier, and Sydney an hour later. When it matters, treat the Japanese date as the deadline and order the day before.

Two further timing traps worth knowing: pre-orders and in-stock items cannot be combined in one order on Chiikawa Market, so you will pay shipping twice if you want both; and if you are ordering through a proxy, they need lead time to place the order before the window shuts, so the final day is already too late.

Theatre-exclusive goods

Some items are sold only at Japanese cinemas, often as bundles with a ticket or as limited first-week giveaways. These cannot be ordered directly by anyone outside Japan, so the realistic route is the aftermarket on Mercari Japan through a proxy such as Buyee, shortly after release.

Buy early. Theatre exclusives are produced in fixed quantities for a release window, and listings become both scarcer and dearer once the film leaves cinemas.

What it costs to ship movie merch

Movie ranges lean heavily on plush, which are light but bulky — so shipping is priced on volume as often as on weight. For a sense of scale, Japan Post's EMS rates as of September 3, 2026:

ParcelEurope / Canada / Australia United States
One small plush, ~500 g packed¥3,150 ¥3,900
One large plush, ~1 kg packed¥4,400 ¥5,300
Several items, ~2 kg packed¥6,700 ¥7,900

The practical conclusion is to plan a movie haul as one shipment. Pre-orders that release on different dates cannot be consolidated by the store, but a forwarding address can hold them and send them together — which is the one case where forwarding beats ordering direct for this store.

Import tax then applies in your own country; the fees and customs guide has the current US, EU and UK rules.

A quick checklist

  1. Check the route badge on the drop page — orderable, proxy-only, or theatre exclusive.
  2. Note the deadline as a Japanese date, and order the day before.
  3. Decide up front whether you are consolidating; if so, order to a forwarding address rather than direct.
  4. Keep pre-orders and in-stock items as separate orders, since the store requires it.
  5. For theatre exclusives, set a Mercari search rather than waiting for a restock that will not come.

FAQ

Can I buy Chiikawa movie merch from overseas?

Yes — most movie merch appears on Chiikawa Market, which ships internationally through Global-e with duties calculated at checkout. Theatre exclusives and arcade prizes are the exceptions, and the aftermarket is the route for those.

Why are the pre-order deadlines so tight?

Windows close on Japan Standard Time, which is 9 hours ahead of UTC and does not observe daylight saving. A 23:59 JST deadline has already passed by 07:59 in Los Angeles, 10:59 in New York and 15:59 in London on the same day.

Can I combine a pre-order with something in stock?

Not on Chiikawa Market — they must be separate orders, which means paying shipping twice. A Japanese forwarding address can receive both and send them together instead.

How much does it cost to ship a Chiikawa plush?

By EMS, roughly ¥3,150 for a small plush packed at about 500 g to Europe, Canada or Australia and ¥3,900 to the United States; a large plush at about 1 kg is ¥4,400 and ¥5,300 respectively, as published by Japan Post in September 2026.

How do I get theatre-exclusive Chiikawa goods?

Through the aftermarket. They are sold only at Japanese cinemas, so buy from Mercari Japan via a proxy, and do it early — listings get scarcer and more expensive after the film leaves cinemas.

Will movie merch be restocked?

Standard line items sometimes are, but movie ranges are usually single production runs tied to the release window. Do not plan around a restock.
